A Mastic Beach man stopped by State Police for speeding on the Southern State Parkway has been charged with heroin possession, police said.
At about 10:50 p.m. Monday, James Hilbert, 27, of Mastic Beach was speeding in a blue Cadillac near Eagle Avenue, Exit 18, police said. When officers stopped Hilbert for going 71 mph in a 55 mph zone, they discovered his license was suspended, police said.
Police said a search of the vehicle found a crack pipe and white vial containing a white, powdery substance. Upon searching Hilbert, police said, they found a bag with 100 decks of heroin.
Hilbert was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and other traffic and vehicle violations, police said.
