Suffolk police have charged a Mastic man under Leandra's Law after he rear-ended another car Sunday and, investigators say, they found he was impaired by drugs and had two children in his vehicle.

Steven Gray, 33, was driving his 2011 Ford Mustang east on Montauk Highway near Midland Avenue in Mastic at about 1:45 p.m. when he collided with a 1990 Toyota that was also heading east, police said. After interviewing Gray, police said, they determined he was drug-impaired.

At the time of the crash, Gray had his 10-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old girl in the car, police said. No one was injured. Gray's daughter was released to the custody of her grandmother, police said, and the other child was released to her mother.

Police said they charged Gray with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a passenger less than 16 years old, one count of driving with ability impaired by drugs, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Gray is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.
