Cops: Mattituck pharmacist stole Hydrocodone
A pharmacist at a Rite Aid store in Mattituck has been charged with stealing Hydrocodone painkiller pills for his personal use, Southold Town police said.
The arrest took place at the store on Route 25 on Friday, and was announced by police early Monday. Pharmacist Paul Rinaldi, 57, of Miller Place, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
The thefts took place over a six-month period and were uncovered by the Rite Aid Pharmacy Asset Protection Division, police said. The arrest was made just before 2 p.m. on Friday, according to police.
Police said that an investigation determined the "Rinaldi was stealing and self-medicating himself with the Hydrocodone over the course of a six-month period." It was not immediately clear how long Rinaldi had worked for Rite Aid.
Arraignment details were not immediately available.
