A Mattituck woman was arrested on charges of petty larceny after she stole two purses Monday -- from inside a neighborhood church, police said.

Sibel L. Pumillo, 25, was arrested Monday afternoon by Southold Town police. She faces arraignment Tuesday in Southold Town Justice Court.

Police said that two female employees at the Advent Lutheran Church on Legion Avenue in Mattituck reported that "their purses had been stolen from the lobby" at about 11:30 a.m. Monday. An investigation found that Pumillo had been in the church earlier in the day -- and had taken the purses, police said.

The contents of the purses was detailed by police.
