An Islip man who had disappeared from his home Monday, prompting Suffolk County police to issue a "silver alert," has been found safe and unharmed, the department said.

Suffolk County police had issued a "silver alert" for Thomas Bennett, 69, who was last seen at his Union Boulevard home around 8:30 a.m.

Police sent out the alert via email at about 11:30 a.m.; another alert announcing that he was found safely was sent at 12:50 p.m.

Police did not provide details.

The silver alert program is designed to inform local media, hospitals and law enforcement agencies when a senior citizen or individual suffering from mental or cognitive disorders is missing.
