An East Hampton woman is charged with endangering the welfare of a child after leaving her baby in her vehicle while she shopped Tuesday at a Riverhead Walmart store, police said.

Theresa Thu Tran, 27, was arrested after a person in the parking lot heard a crying baby in a car seat inside a 2008 Cadillac Escalade shortly before 1:30 p.m., Riverhead Town police said.

The mother of the baby came out of the store shortly after police arrived and was arrested.

The baby was released to a family member.

Thu Tran was released on her own recognizance at her arraignment Tuesday at Riverhead Town Justice Court. She is due back in court on Nov. 4.
