Cops: Montauk man charged in rape of girl, 14
A 27-year-old Montauk man has been charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl, police said Tuesday.
Juan J. Zhingri-Deleg, of 403 West Lake Dr., was arrested by East Hampton Town police Monday at 7:20 p.m. and charged with one count of second-degree rape and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor. He was arraigned Tuesday in Town Justice Court and ordered held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
The identity of the girl was not released because she is a minor and because police said she is the victim of a sex crime. Police said Zhingri-Deleg was "an acquaintance" of the girl's family friends -- and that was how he met her.
Police said Zhingri-Deleg was arrested following an investigation that resulted from detectives being made aware of "the inappropriate relationship," but declined to be more specific.
East Hampton Det. Sgt. Gregory S. Schaefer said the investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone with additional information to contact police at 631-537-7575. All calls will remain confidential, he said.
