A Newsday delivery driver from Central Islip was killed early Monday when he lost control and crashed his box truck on Sunrise Highway in Copiague, police said.

Suffolk County police identified the driver as Michael Buccellato, 51, and said he died after being ejected from the vehicle.

The single-vehicle accident occurred at 3:10 a.m. near the intersection of Sunrise and Great Neck Road, on the border of Copiague and North Amityville. Police said Buccellato was headed east on Sunrise when his delivery truck crossed over the median.

First Precinct detectives are looking into whether Buccellato had a medical episode before the accident and they are trying to obtain any video footage from businesses in the area. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police initially said the driver was 52, not 51.

The crash remains under investigation and police are asking anyone who might have information to call First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152.
