Cops: No charges after Riverhead man hit

No criminal charges are expected in a Riverhead motor-vehicle accident in which a pedestrian was struck and critically injured Monday, police said.

Riverhead Town police identified the injured man as Daniel Locastro, 63, of Riverhead.

Stony Brook University Hospital officials said late Monday the man's condition was "very critical."

No information about his condition was available Tuesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Riverhead police said they received a call at 5:03 p.m. about a man who was hit by a car as he crossed East Main Street at Riverside Drive.

No charges were filed against the driver, Barbara Guerin, 76, also of Riverhead; police said the driver could not avoid the pedestrian.

Joseph Oliver, chief of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance, said the pedestrian "was initially found in cardiac arrest and we were able to regain a pulse on scene."

Oliver said police and ambulance personnel assisted in performing CPR and other advanced life-support measures on the man.
