Cops: No charges in E. Northport pedestrian fatality
Suffolk police said Sunday no charges will be filed against a motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian in East Northport.
Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Richard Barton, 51, of Furwood Drive in East Northport was walking in the eastbound lane of Pulaski Road near West Point Drive, police said.
He was struck by a 2006 Dodge Caravan heading east on Pulaski and driven by Vinton Simms, 77, also of East Northport.
Both men were taken to Huntington Hospital. Barton was pronounced dead. Simms was treated for a knee injury and released.
Det. Sgt. Richard Auspaker said Barton, who authorities believe worked in construction, was in the lane of travel in a dark area of road.
