A shooting in East Hampton Friday forced schools to lock down and ended with one person injured and another taken into custody after a brief car chase, East Hampton Town police said.
The shooting at a residence on Gardiner Avenue happened about 10:30 a.m. and set off a multiagency search that included Suffolk County police and canine units and East Hampton Village police, authorities said.
One person sustained minor injuries from a shotgun blast and was taken to Southampton Hospital, police said.
At the same time, police advised schools and other facilities in the area to stay inside as they searched for the other person involved in the incident.
At one point, police believed the suspect was hiding in a home in the area of Jericho Lane in East Hampton and surrounded the property, East Hampton Town police said.
But in Amagansett, about two hours after the shooting, East Hampton Town patrol officers found the person driving a vehicle on Abrahams Path.
After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped on Springs Fireplace Road about 12:40 p.m. and the driver taken into custody, police said.
Police did not release other details, including the names of the victim and the driver.
