Cops: Parents arrested after Amber Alert

Two children "deemed to be in imminent danger" were found uninjured in Ronkonkoma on Friday evening after their parents fled with them in violation of a Family Court order, Southampton Town police said.

An Amber Alert was issued about 6:20 p.m. for the 1- and 5- year-old children of Amy Whitlock, 30, and Christopher Carcione, 47, of Southampton, police said.

Southampton Town Det. Sgt. Lisa A. Costa said there was a history of neglect, drug use and weapons possession. "The judge felt there was a danger," Costa said.

When Carcione learned of the court order Friday, he told a Child Protective Services caseworker by phone that the family was out of state and wouldn't comply with the order, police said.

The Amber Alert was initiated by Southampton Town police, and within 40 minutes, Costa said, the parents and the children were located by Suffolk police officers at a motel in Ronkonkoma.

The children were turned over to Emergency CPS workers, police said, and the parents taken into custody.

"Thankfully there was a happy ending," Costa said. "It was excellent."

The parents face arraignment in Southampton Justice Court at a later date, police said, on charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Custodial Interference.
