Southold Town police say a Peconic woman was involved in a snowmobile accident shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday and was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital, but is expected to recover.

Police said Valerie Hallock, 44, was operating a 2006 Ski-Doo on a vineyard south of Route 25 in Peconic when she failed to negotiate a turn and struck a fence post. She was ejected from the snowmobile, police said, and also hit the fence.

Suffolk County Police Department aviators took Hallock to the hospital.

Hallock's family members couldn't be reached Sunday.

A Stony Brook official declined to give Hallock's condition, saying only that she was at the hospital and being evaluated.
