A 20-year-old Brooklyn man died after being struck by a sport utility vehicle Friday in Bay Shore, Suffolk police said.

Manuel Dejesus-Garcia was trying to cross Pine Aire Drive near North Gardiner Drive shortly after noon when he was hit by a Honda Pilot driven by Joshua Sanchez, 23, of Brentwood, police said.

Dejesus-Garcia was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Sanchez was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said. "He tried to avoid him, but hit him," said Det. Sgt. John Diffley of the Third Precinct.

It doesn't appear criminality was involved, he said.
