Cops: Homeless man seriously injured after walking into traffic
Southampton Town Police said they are investigating a Thursday morning accident that injured a homeless man who walked into a roadway in Hampton Bays.
Victor Muralles, 25, “ran across the southbound lanes of Flanders Road directly into moving traffic when he was struck by a 2002 Honda traveling southbound,” police said in a news release Thursday night.
Muralles was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk police aviation unit and was listed in serious condition, police said.
The driver, Kelvin Rodriguez, 24, of Riverhead, was not injured. Police cited him for driving without a license and his vehicle was impounded for a safety check. No criminal charges are expected to be filed, police said.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Southampton Town detectives at 631-702-2230.
