Cops: Pedestrian hit by car in Bay Shore
An 18-year-old pedestrian was critically injured Monday when a motorist lost control of his car and struck him while he and friends were walking in Bay Shore, police said.
Francisco Gutierrez, of 19 Spruce St., Bay Shore, was taken to Southside Hospital after suffering severe head injuries, body fractures and internal injuries, Suffolk police said.
Gutierrez and two friends were walking near Third Avenue and Spruce Street about 3 p.m., when the crash happened, police said. A Honda Civic driven by Alexis Ponce, 28, of Chapman Place, Bay Shore, went off the roadway and struck Gutierrez and a utility pole, police said.
Neither Ponce nor Gutierrez's two friends were injured, police said.
There were no criminal charges filed, and no information was released by police as to why Ponce lost control of the vehicle.
Third Squad detectives, who are conducting the investigating, impounded the car for safety checks, and asked that anyone with information concerning the accident contact them at 631-854-8352.
