A pedestrian was killed late Sunday as he walked across Route 111 in Central Islip, Suffolk County police said.

Luis Alfredo Rios Arevalo, 49, of Brentwood, was hit crossing near Chestnut Street at about 9:35 p.m., police said. He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

Third Squad detectives are investigating.

In a news release, police said Stacey N. Innocent, 18, of Brentwood, was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander north on Route 111 when she hit Arevalo who was walking eastbound across the roadway at Chestnut Street.

Innocent was not injured; no charges are pending, police said.

Her vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
