A pedestrian was hit and killed Friday morning while crossing William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, Suffolk County police said.

Evelyn Rodgers, 58, of Mastic Beach, was crossing at the intersection of Havenwood Drive at about 9:40 a.m., police said, when a 2003 Toyota in the southbound lane struck her.

Rodgers was taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, where she died a short time later.

The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old man from Blue Point, was not injured in the crash, police said.

Seventh Squad detectives are investigating.

The southbound lanes of the parkway were closed for some time after the accident during the police investigation, but they were reopened in the early afternoon.

Anyone with information is urged to call the squad at 631-852-8752.
