Cops: Pedestrian seriously hurt after hit on LIE service road
Suffolk County police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that seriously injured a pedestrian Friday morning in Lake Ronkonkoma, a department spokeswoman said.
Peter Garabedian, 53, of Selden, was struck by a 2002 Hyundai on the north service road of the Long Island Expressway and Hawkins Road at about 5:35 a.m., police said.
Garabedian was in the roadway when he was hit by the car, which was traveling west and was being driven by Michael Fici, 49, of Lake Ronkonkoma, police said.
Garabedian was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with "serious injuries," according to a news release from police.
Fici was not injured.
Police closed portions of the service road and Hawkins Road in both directions for an investigation, and both roadways were reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
Fici's car was impounded for a safety check, and the investigation is continuing, police said.
Anyone with information on the crash can call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
