Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident early Thursday that left a pedestrian seriously injured in Middle Island.

Lisa Andronica, 22, of Holtsville, was walking south along Wilson Avenue, south of Route 25, at 3:10 a.m. when she was struck by a box truck also heading south, Suffolk County police said. The dark-colored truck left the scene.

Andronica was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was in serious condition, police said.

Police believe the victim was walking along the road, a little further out than normal because of snow on the side of the street, Det. Sgt. Edward Aki of the Sixth Squad said.

Detectives urge anyone with information on the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
