A 32-year-old Babylon woman was struck by a car and seriously injured on Monday evening as she attempted to cross Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, police said.

Cerice Caprio, of Friendly Court, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical but stable condition after the accident, which Suffolk County police said occurred at 9:06 p.m.

Police said Jonathan Bloom, 47, of Levittown, the driver of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra that struck Caprio, was not injured in the crash.

Police said Caprio was attempting to cross Deer Park Avenue south of Woods Road when she was struck by the southbound Elantra. Bloom remained at the scene.

The car was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152.
