A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while crossing a road in Port Jefferson Station on Saturday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

The woman was crossing North Bicycle Path at 5:05 p.m. when she was struck by a 2002 Honda heading north.

The driver, Thomas Sammartino, 17, of Port Jefferson Station, stayed at the scene, police said.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where she was pronounced dead. Her identity was not immediately released.

Sixth Squad detectives were investigating the accident.
