A 73-year-old man was seriously hurt when he was hit by a truck in a CVS parking lot in West Islip on Friday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Police said James Pannell of West Islip was walking onto the parking lot of the CVS at 499 Montauk Hwy. at 6:05 p.m. when he was hit by a 2002 GMC pickup truck that was heading west and making a left turn into the lot. The driver, Robert Waage, 51, of Dix Hills wasn't hurt and stayed at the scene.

Police said Pannell was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in serious condition with a head injury.

A safety check was conducted on the truck, and the investigation is continuing, police said.
