Cops: Police-car crash sends 3 to hospital
Three people, including two police officers, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday, after the driver of a Toyota turned in front of a Suffolk County patrol car which was rushing to respond to a bank alarm, police said.
The First Precinct patrol car, traveling east on Long Island Avenue in Deer Park, had its lights and siren on, police said. Cars were moving to the shoulder of the road when the driver of the Toyota turned left in front of the patrol car, resulting in a crash, police said.
The police car then struck the corner of a storefront at Wright Avenue, with the Toyota hitting a parked car and then the adjacent storefront, police said. The call came in at 12:11 p.m.
The two officers and the woman driving the Toyota were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.
