The Third Precinct Crime Section said Tuesday it is investigating the desecration of a grave at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore.

Some time between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning, vandals overturned a headstone and dug a three-foot hole at a grave site at Oakwood Cemetery, 3 Moffitt Blvd., police said.

The hole reached the steel encasement surround of a coffin, but the coffin was not damaged, police said.

The family of the deceased has been notified of the incident, police said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
