Suffolk County police are looking for a burglar who on Thursday stole more than $1,000 in cash and gift cards from a Bellport mission.
A police spokeswoman Friday said that an office at the Lighthouse Mission, 1543 Montauk Hwy., was burglarized at about 9:20 a.m.
A person entered the mission through a back pantry door, forced open an office door and then made off with the cash and gift cards, police said.
The mission's website said $650 in cash and $450 in gift cards were stolen; the cash had just been donated for the mission's mountain bike program. The mission feeds the hungry and homeless of Long Island through donations.
The burglar did activate the mission's alarm system, police said.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
