Detectives are investigating a shooting in Wyandanch Friday morning in which the victim was wounded in the shoulder.

First Precinct police officers responded to North 15th Street at about 10:25 a.m. "after a 911 caller reported a man had been shot," Suffolk County police said in a news release.

The call was made from a Getty gas station on Straight Path near Merritt Avenue, police said. The scene of the shooting was not immediately clear.

Police identified the victim as William Ballard, 35, of Wyandanch, who was shot in the shoulder. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. Police did not disclose his condition.

Detectives urge anyone with information about the shooting to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
