A Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center employee was critically injured when he was hit by a car driven by another hospital worker not long after the two left work late Wednesday, officials said.

Obed Kyei, 43, of Brentwood, was struck at 11:05 p.m. by a northbound 2014 Ford Fiesta while crossing Beach Drive, next to the West Islip hospital, Suffolk County police said.

Kyei was hospitalized at Good Samaritan in critical condition, the hospital said.

The driver, Brenna Cuccia, 22, of Riverhead, remained at the scene. She was not injured or charged, police said.

Neither police nor a hospital spokesman could say immediately what types of jobs the two employees have at Good Samaritan.

The hospital spokesman said the two left work moments before the accident.

It was not immediately clear whether the employees know each other.

The car was impounded for a safety check, police said, adding that the investigation is continuing.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352.
