A West Babylon bank was robbed Friday by a man who handed a teller a note demanding money, police said.

The man entered the Chase Bank branch, 733 Sunrise Hwy. at 3:20 p.m., Suffolk police said. After the teller complied, the robber fled the immediate area on foot, police said. There were no reported injuries.

"We believe he fled from the front of the bank to the back of the shopping center, through a hole in the fence, and at that point may have entered a vehicle," Det. Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky said.

Details concerning the vehicle were not available, Friday but police said the suspect was between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, in his 20s, and of medium build, wearing a baseball cap, a dark hooded jacket, brown work boots, blue jeans and white gloves.

Detectives asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
