A traffic control officer was hit Friday by a car that left the scene of the incident in Hampton Bays, but fortunately, Southampton police said, the officer was uninjured and the driver is in custody.

Police said the incident occurred about 1:45 p.m. near the intersection of Montauk Highway and Old Riverhead Road.

Southampton Police Sgt. Howard Kalb said the male officer was uninjured -- and said the driver of the vehicle was in custody after leaving the scene.

He said no arrests had been made but police are investigating the incident.
