Cops rescue unconscious man from house fire
Two Suffolk County police officers rescued an unconscious man from a house fire in Mastic Beach early Monday, police said.
Officers Brendan Gayer and Brian Smith of the Seventh Precinct were sent to the fire about 2:30 a.m., police said. When they reached the 125 Cranberry Dr. address, a neighbor told the officers someone was most likely trapped inside.
With flames visible in the rear windows of the house, police officials said the two officers went in through the front door and found an unconscious 43-year-old man.
They carried him outside, where he was given oxygen, police said. The man, whose name the police did not make public, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and other non-life-threatening injuries.
The Mastic Beach Fire Department extinguished the fire in about 45 minutes, police said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and the Arson Section of the Suffolk County Police Department is investigating.
