Southold police pulled over a Riverhead man for several traffic violations early Monday morning, and then arrested him on charges of stealing the car he was driving.

Tarell Holloway of 44 Goodridge Ave. was driving on Cottage Lane at 2:47 a.m. when he was stopped, police said. Holloway initially gave police a false name, but further investigation revealed the 2006 BMW he was driving had been stolen from a Riverhead shop, police said.

Holloway was charged with possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal impersonation and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He was being held for arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court.
