A Ronkonkoma man died after the car he was driving went off a Ronkonkoma roadway, jumped the curb and crashed into a tree, Suffolk police said.

Steve Garcia, 58, was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Garcia was driving a 2006 Nissan westbound on Route 454 about 1 p.m., police said, when the accident took place near the intersection of Kossuth Avenue.

Det. Sgt. Darrell Dabe said investigators are looking into the possibility that Garcia may have had a health problem while driving that contributed to the accident and to his death.

Detectives asked that anyone with information about the crash contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
