Cops: Roosevelt man dies in Huntington Station shooting

Officers responding to a shots-fired call late Wednesday night in Huntington Station found the passenger of a car shot and fatally wounded.

Suffolk County police identified the victim as Jazzmen Bryant, 33, of Cumberland Avenue in Roosevelt, and said he was pronounced dead at Huntington Hospital.

A dark-colored, four-door Saturn was removed from the crime scene by a Suffolk police tow truck about 10 a.m. Thursday -- almost 11 hours after the shooting was reported. Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said the 911 call reporting the shots came into the Second Precinct at 11:19 p.m.

Fitzpatrick said responding officers found the victim at the scene, near the corner of Eighth Avenue and West Hills Road. He had been shot at least once in the torso, police said.

Police said the man had been a passenger in the vehicle but did not say if the driver had been identified or located.

Police did not release the make or model of the car. Officers did not confirm that the car towed away was the vehicle involved in the shooting.

Police initially withheld the victim's identity, pending notification of next of kin. Fitzpatrick would only say the man "was not from the neighborhood," but declined to elaborate.

Police said the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation and no arrests had been made.
