Cops seek attackers who beat man on Aquebogue street

Riverhead police are investigating an assault that left a man injured in a roadway.

Authorities were called to Zion Street in Aquebogue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving an anonymous tip of several men beating up another man.

Upon arrival, officers found Willie Jones, 50, of Riverhead injured and lying in the roadway.

Riverhead medics treated the victim at the scene, after which he was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Later, Jones was transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition Tuesday night.
