Cops seek help in probe of Sweet Hollow Hall arson
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and arson detectives are seeking information on a fire that police say was intentionally set and that "completely destroyed" Sweet Hollow Hall in Huntington last week.
The fire, set Dec. 10 at about 1:25 a.m., destroyed the West Hills County Park building which was used as a meeting hall and for community events, Suffolk County police said.
In addition to serving as headquarters for the Senior Pops Orchestra of Long Island, the space was also used by church groups and an environmental nonprofit that conducted nature classes, said a spokeswoman for the Suffolk Parks Department.
Between them, Crime Stoppers and the county arson task force are offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information can anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS or the arson task force at 631-654-1211.
