A dark-colored sedan missing a side mirror, possibly a Ford Fusion, is being sought in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a Mastic man Sunday, Suffolk police said.

Seventh Precinct detectives want the public's help in finding the vehicle that left a passenger-side mirror on the ground after hitting Troy Castro, 26, as he was walking about 2 a.m. on Wood Avenue near Hawthorne Street in Mastic, police said.

Castro was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, then transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was in serious condition with leg injuries, police said.

"Currently, he is paralyzed," Seventh Precinct Det. Stephen Guyer said. "He's had surgery, but I don't know what the long-term outcome will be."

The area is mostly residential, and Guyer said detectives Monday night were canvassing homes and any businesses nearby to see if they had surveillance footage.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding to call them at 631-852-8752 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
