Cops seek man who groped Old Field jogger

Authorities are seeking a man who groped a jogger in Old Field Tuesday, Suffolk County police said Thursday.

The victim was jogging north on Mount Grey Road about 6:35 a.m. when a man she had passed asked her a question, said Det. Lt. Gregory McVeigh of the Sixth Precinct.

"He asked her an innocuous, out-of-place question, and she continued to run," he said. But the man ran up behind her, grabbed her with one arm and groped her with the other, McVeigh said. The woman told officers she heard a vehicle approaching and was able to break away.

The attacker fled on foot. The woman driving the vehicle, which was headed northbound, picked up the jogger. The jogger was shaken up but was not injured, police said.

McVeigh said the driver of the vehicle was able to get a "good look" at the suspect because he walked away from the victim heading south. The attacker was described as between 17 and 21 years old, and 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a thin to medium build, blond crew cut and blue eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts and dirty, gray skater-type sneakers, police said.
