Police are searching for a man who disappeared last week from a vehicle taking him to Pilgrim Psychiatric Center, running into a wooded area of the hospital grounds.
Dennis Shepherd, 46, has not been seen since he fled the unspecified vehicle Friday at about 10:15 a.m., Suffolk County police said.
Police said they are fearful the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Shepherd could be a danger to himself. He was being transported from Stony Brook University Medical Center to the Brentwood facility when he fled.
Shepherd is white, has blue eyes and short, spiked blonde hair.
He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, light gray pants and tan sneakers, police said.
Police ask anyone who may have seen Shepherd to call the Fugitive / Missing Persons Section at 631-852-6044.
