Cops seek suspect in Coram shooting
Suffolk County detectives are looking for the person responsible for a shooting that seriously injured a 20-year-old Medford man Friday night.
Police said the victim, Brett McCoy, was shot once in the torso at about 10:30 p.m. on Adams Lane in Middle Island by an unknown person after driving a friend home in his 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Despite his injuries, McCoy was able to drive his car out of the area. He was traveling west on Middle County Road, toward the Sixth Precinct, when he drove off the roadway and struck a fence in front of the Coram Fire Department, police said.
He was taken by Coram Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he underwent surgery. McCoy is listed in critical condition, police said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
