Police are seeking the public's help identifying a man who broke into several vehicles at an East Islip auto repair shop.

Suffolk County police issued a Crime Stoppers alert Wednesday, soliciting information for Third Squad detectives investigating the break-ins, which took place in the early morning hours of Jan. 26, at Mitchy Auto Service, 57 Moffitt Blvd. in East Islip.

About 3 a.m. that day the man broke into a 2000 BMW and removed the middle console; on the same night, video surveillance cameras showed a man breaking into a 1995 Jeep and stealing the car stereo from the dashboard. Police said in the news alert that the two thefts are believed to be connected.

Police ask anyone with information on the crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
