Cops seek suspect in Riverhead purse theft

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and detectives from the Riverhead police department are asking for the public's help identifying and finding a suspect in the theft of a purse in March from a shopper at a Kmart store.

The purse, stolen in a store on Route 58 in Riverhead the afternoon of March 12, contained $164 in cash and a debit card. The purse was later found and returned to the owner without the debit card and cash.

The card was later used to make unauthorized purchases in Riverhead and Hampton Bays. The suspect, a heavyset woman with blond hair, was seen driving away in a green minivan.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
