A Sag Harbor mother was arrested after she left her 3-year-old son alone in the car -- with the keys in the ignition and the engine running -- while she went food shopping, police said.

A passerby alerted Southampton police, who arrested Yeimi R. Lima, 28, after an investigation at the King Kullen supermarket Saturday afternoon in Bridgehampton.

The incident occurred at 12:55 p.m., police said.

Police said Lima was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

She was released on $100 station house bail.
