Cops: Shoreham woman, 21, struck, killed by truck

A 21-year-old Shoreham woman was killed Satuday night after she was struck by a pickup truck on North Wading River Road in Wading River, cops said.

Riverhead Town police said Michelle Defranco died from her injuries at Peconic Bay Medical Center. No charges have been filed against the driver, Jacob McComb, 22, of Wading River, police said.

The accident occurred on North Wading River Road at 9:55 p.m. Saturday. It was then, police said, that the 1990 Toyota pickup truck driven by McComb, traveling westbound near Dogwood Drive, stuck Defranco, who police said had stepped into the travel lane.

Defranco was initially attended to by volunteers from the Wading River fire department and then was transported to the medical center. Police said she died shortly after arrival.

The accident is still under investigation, police said.
