Cops: Southern State speeder charged with DWI
A Brentwood man stopped for speeding and making unsafe lane changes Friday on the Southern State Parkway in North Amityville faces a DWI charge, State Police said.
Miguel Morales, 30, was stopped by troopers for driving 70 mph and changing lanes unsafely at about 1:47 a.m. east on the parkway near Route 110, Exit 32, police said.
Troopers interviewing Morales said they "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage." He failed sobriety tests and was arrested. He also provided a breath-analyzer reading of .13 percent, police said.
He is charged with driving while intoxicated and traffic violations and is scheduled to appear Nov. 14 in First District Court in Central Islip.
On Thursday night, troopers stopped another speeding driver making unsafe lane changes on the Parkway in North Massapequa, near Broadway, Exit 30. The driver, Michael Blythe, 23, of Monroe, Conn., faces drug charges and traffic violations, police said.
Police said Blythe was driving 86 mph and failed to signal a lane change as he drove east on the parkway.
Troopers interviewing Blythe said he "gave conflicting stories about where he was going and where he was coming from."
Troopers searched the vehicle and found 12 Suboxone pills, typically used to treat addiction to heroin and painkillers, according to a news release.
Blythe is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 25.
