Suffolk police are investigating after they discovered a bloody man who appeared to be the victim of an assault in Mastic Beach early Sunday morning.

Police found the man in a backyard on Longfellow Avenue after a resident called 911 at about 3:30 a.m., police said. The victim's injuries do not appear life-threatening, a police spokeswoman said.

It is unclear if the victim was found in his own backyard or on someone else's property, the spokeswoman said. The victim was taken to a hospital, she said.
