Cops: Suspect shot same man twice
Suffolk County police Thursday arrested a Greenlawn man who they said shot the same person in two separate incidents over a six-day period.
Arthur Ellis, 28, faces first- and second-degree assault charges in the shooting of Cory Culberth, 21, also of Greenlawn, on July 12 and Sunday, Suffolk police said in a news release.
The first shooting occurred in Greenlawn and the second in Huntington where, police said, Culberth was shot as he stood in front of 6 Wall St. On that day, Culberth was shot multiple times in his abdomen and left arm. Another bullet grazed his head, police said.
He was taken in a private vehicle to Huntington Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
In the first instance, Culberth was shot in both legs in the early evening while standing on Birch Street in Greenlawn.
Neither the suspect nor the victim gave a motive for the shootings, police said.
Second Squad detectives, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, found Ellis in Deer Park and arrested him yesterday morning. He was to be held overnight at the Second Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
