Cops: Suspicious package at car wash turns out to be 'training aids'

A suspicious package found in a car Wednesday at a Commack car wash turned out to be nonexplosive materials used as training aids, Suffolk County police said.

Police responded to an emergency call at about 10:20 a.m., after a worker detailing a car at the car wash on Jericho Turnpike found the training materials, police said.

Unsure of the exact nature of the materials, he called 911, a department spokeswoman said.

Police closed the roadway to investigate and then determined the materials were training items.

The spokeswoman said the "materials were training aides used for a first responder" but said police were not providing more information.
