A man tried to rob a Deer Park bank Saturday afternoon, but was thwarted when a teller refused to hand over cash, police said.

Suffolk County police said the man walked into the TD Bank branch at 2178 Deer Park Ave. about 3 p.m. and handed a note to the teller demanding cash. When the teller refused to give the thief any money, he fled south on Deer Park Avenue, police said.

Police described the man as between 20 and 25 year old, clean shaven with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a red sweatshirt, jeans and sunglasses.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
