A teacher at Longwood Junior High School in Middle Island was arrested at his home Wednesday night on child pornography charges, Suffolk police said.

Christopher Teague, 34, of 21 Hayes Lane, Coram, a math teacher in the Longwood School District for several years, was arrested by Computer Crimes detectives on a charge of possessing a sexual performance by a child, and a charge of promoting a sexual performance by a child.

Det. Sgt. John Sumwalt said Suffolk detectives followed up on a referral from the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. They executed a search warrant at Teague's home Wednesday, seized his computers and other computer related items, and uncovered the illicit material, he said.

“We did reach out to the school district administration, but at this point we have not uncovered any evidence of inappropriate contact with students,” Sumwalt said. “At this point there's no indication that any of the Internet activity took place on school grounds.”

A representative of the Longwood Central School District was not immediately available to comment Thursday on Teague's status as a teacher.

Teague was to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Central Islip.

Sumwalt said the investigation is continuing and asked that anyone with additional information contact the Computer Crimes Unit at 631-852-6279.
